Alfresco Content Management System

Alfresco is the leading open source enterprise content management system built by the most experienced team in the industry - drawn from Documentum®, Vignette® and Interwoven®. Our years of experience in ECM drove us to believe that legacy, proprietary technologies are plagued with high cost, high complexity and lack of customer control. We wanted to do things differently.

Alfresco offers a content management platform that focuses on Low Cost, Simplicity and Choice.

Alfresco has largely disrupted the proprietary ECM world with a low cost, open source alternative. But the rise of social software in the enterprise has created a new set of use cases for content management - a new, more collaborative paradigm that we (and the industry) calls Social Content Management. Alfresco's support for open source and open standards (like CMIS and JSR 168) makes Alfresco the perfect platform to manage content in this new social world.

Alfresco Share Interface
Enables global teams to collaborate on content, with new social features like status updates, content activity streams, tagging & search

Inline Preview
Preview popular file types (like Microsoft Office documents, PDFs and images) directly within your browser, without having to download them

Folder-based Rules & Actions
Much like Outlook or Gmail folder rules, business users can create simple document workflows by themselves

Automatic Version Control
Easily allows users to track major and minor versions of documents with an audit trail

Easy as a Shared Drive
With support for CIFS and WebDav, you can drag and drop files right into Alfresco just like a shared network drive

Microsoft Office Integration
Alfresco looks just like SharePoint to Microsoft Office, allowing users to upload, check-in, check-out and modify content right from Office

Drag & Drop From Email
Alfresco can be mounted as an IMAP service in your email client, so that you can drag and drop content into Alfresco right from email

Automated Rules and Actions
Simple to configure rules can be used to automate document-related processes

Powerful Aspects
More powerful than Types is the ability to create Aspects. Aspects can hold a set of custom metadata and be applied to any document, regardless of content type

Lightweight Scripts
Lightweight scripting allows developers to create new reusable components using Javascript, PHP, and freemarker

Workflow
Alfresco provides workflow to help automate the processing of documents. Based on jBPM, Alfresco workflows can be built to support simple review and approval processes or can be configured to support more complex business processes

Transformation Services
Alfresco provides the ability to automatically create more than one document format for any content within the system. For example, Microsoft Word documents can have a PDF version automatically created at the end of an approval workflow for later publication on the website

Zero Foot Print Clients
By adopting industry standards interfaces (i.e. CIFS, IMAP, the SharePoint Protocol, etc.) Alfresco does not require users to install any software or plugins on their local PC

Security
Fine grained security levels, based on user, group and role management, control access to content managed by Alfresco

Standards Driven
Alfresco has been built on leading industry standards, including; REST, RSS, Atom publishing, JSON, OpenSearch, OpenSocial, OpenID, Web Services, JSR 168, JSR 170 level 2, MyFaces, CIFS, FTP, WebDAV, SQL, ODF and CMIS

Replication
Content can be replicated between Alfresco systems. Remote offices can have read-only access to content locally providing them with quick access and reducing wide area network traffic

Life Before Records
Alfresco is used to manage the lifecycle of the content before it becomes a record. This allows the managing of the review and approval process of a company report as it goes through multiple revisions before the final, approved, version is filed as a record

Multi-stage File and Declare
Alfresco supports a multi-stage process for filing and declaring records. This allows users to file and then, at a later date, add the required information to enable them to declare the record

Easy Configuration
Records Managers can easily set up the Alfresco Records Management system to support their business needs

Disposition Schedules
Simple point-and-click configuration allows the Records Manager to create unique record retention schedules for each of the record categories
